Lobby of a downtown Guelph apartment building.
This renovation has taken a great deal of our time over the last few weeks
This apartment building is working to shed its old image, and attract a new type of tenant. The lobby is
just the first of MANY upgrades planned. Its also the biggest.
The building owners are paying in excess of fifty thousand dollars for the renovation, primarily because
it includes two new elevators.
We demolished the old walls, wall coverings and floors. We had to level the floor – now this may
sound easy, but with multiple hundreds of people living the Guelph building and having to go in and out
through the lobby at all times, the floor was stepped on numerous times, and the leveling had to be
done 5 times!!!!
The new wall materials are stacked stone and Synergy which is a stucco like thick material that after
application has to have a “design” imprinted upon it. Time consuming and messy work. It comes in every
colour and many different levels of thickness between vey coarse and fine. The contractor applying the
synergy has to be trained in its use by the Synergy people.
When it drops on the floor as it inevitably does, it requires masked work with Muriatic acid to clean it
Working metal into the surround of the mailbox area and building a wooden box over the large heaters,
along with fantastic lighting and paint colour choices were the finishing touches. This renovation took 6 weeks.
Some of the work had to be completed in the overnight hours due to high traffic in the days.
It was big job, a great challenge that we rose to meet and it looks fantastic!!
